Access to information and data pertaining to SIO core and dredge samples is through the Index to Marine and Lacustrine Geological Samples.

The SIO core and dredge collections staff routinely submits geological sample data to the searchable National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) which maintains the Index to Marine and Lacustrine Geological Samples. This database, also known and the "Curators' Database," serves as the prime source for SIO geological sample data. The database, begun by NGDC in 1977 in cooperation with an international community of marine geologists, now contains underway and lithologic data for more than 100,000 samples located in some 20 U. S. and international repositories.

To search specifically for SIO sample data, select "Scripps Institution of Oceanography" in the "Institution" field.
